Mary & the girls. I consulted Dr Coffin & he has prescribed a preparation of Iron & Quinine. I have felt stronger & better since dinner, & hope I may escape those debilitating night sweats.
Nothing worthy of note in the papers. Our guerillas are still actively at work in the West, & the infamous Yankees are at the work of devestation & murder wherever they penetrate our territory
Their genl McCook, represented as a brutish beast, was fortunately shot by our guerillas a week ago, & they have in retaliation destroyed & laid waste the country around, & hung 15 or 20 of our men. Will our Presdt never protect his people against these demons?

Sunday 17 All went in to church today except myself. Dr Coffin called & prescribed for Rosey

M. 18. I feel much better today & hope I shall now recruit. I forgot to mention that Dr Hume called to see me on Saturday afternoon. He is at Mr Mazycks & is still interested in wine making &c. He thinks the juice may be well preserved until cool
