Dec. 1877 Aiken belonging to his mothers Estate - This morning I went down to the Treasurers office & paid the taxes amounting to $22.95. Sunday 30 Cold & wet - not many persons at church morning or evening. M. 31 Sent down by Express Tax receipt & bal. ($1.95.) to J J. Legare. 1878 January T. 1 New year! Cold, clear & bracing day. - We all went to Church this morning - & after Church Mary has gone to make some calls, on the bride (Mrs J.G. Porter) & some other friends W. 2 Cold & clear. Planted Peas on old potatoe bed - 3 rows Blue Imperial & 2 rows in Canada Pea. Mr & Mrs Wood called today. Th. 3 Yesterday afternoon Miss Louise Butler of Hyde Park, N. Y. called with her mother on note of introduction from Dr Geddings. She is interested in Botany, & especially the Ferns. I showed her my collection of Ferns & offered any assistance she needed. Clear & very cold! F. 4 This is one of the double birth days in the family. Penny & Maime both celebrate their anniversary on 4 January. Cold & variable with high wind S. 5 Very cold & clear.
