F. 17 Sent off package of Rose cuttings & other things to Harry by mail

S. 18 Last night about 4 A.M. Penny came down to tell us that Lyd was suffering a great deal of pain in her back & side. We used Paragoric, & hot water applications without relief - then we gave 15 drops Chloroform, & that not relieving her, we gave a mixture of Chloral & Morphine. I sent for Dr Coffin & he came about half past 9. She was then easier. He wrote a prescription which I have got from the Drug Store, & give one dose. The pain returned after the Dr Left. We have also applied a pepper plaster to the back

Sunday 19 Light Sleet & snow in morning - clears off. Lyd better this morning

M. 20 Very cold - water frozen in chambers

T. 21 Clear pleasant weather. Walked over to Coker Spring to botanize

W. 22 Mild weather. Received labels for 3 & 4 Cent N.A. Fungi from Cooke

Th. 23 Warm & clouding up

F. 24 Warm & clear, like a spring day. Box Tea arrived today.

S. 25 Warm & clear.

Sunday 26 Clear & becoming cooler

M. 27 Mild & variable weather. Sent Hattie's tea to Charleston by Express

T. 28 Warm & clear weather.

W. 29 Warm & clear, like spring day. At work making up my house copies of III & IV Centuries Fungi Americani. Mrs Moore died yesterday 

Th. 30 Sent off parcel fungi to Ellis. 

F. 31 Rain with N.E. wind, becoming cooler

February S. 1 Clearing off moderately.

Sunday 2 Clear & cold.

M. 3 Clear pleasant weather. Court opened to day. Judge Kershaw

T. 4 Clear becoming over cast.
