T. 22 Clear & pleasant. Planted two seed beds of Sweet potatoes Planted Irish potatoes & Beets

W. 23 Clear & pleasant weather - Planted. "White Elephant Potatoe" sent by Rural New Yorker. Rode out to Hampton hill this morning.

Th. 24 Clear & pleasant weather. Mrs J S Snowden died a few days ago at the Lunatic asylum in Columbia, to be buried in Charleston

F. 25 Clear & pleasant weather.

S. 26 Clear & pleasant. We are now having delightful Indian summer in pleasing contrast with the cold gloomy winter previously.

Sunday 27 Warm & rainy day.

M. 28 I received a letter yesterday from Prof Sargent stating that he has undertaken the collection of wood specimens of our trees for the American Museum of Nat. History in New York, & asking my assistance in procuring specimens from this region. The compensation will be the same as for the Census work last year. It have written to him this morning that I will undertake it. I may have to leave home in a week or two, for Darien & for St Johns

March T.1 Cold wind all yesterday - very cold this morning & wind still high Sowed seeds of Tomatoes, Guinea squash, & Lettuce in flower pots. Received a letter from Richard Dwight, to state that he would be in Aiken today from Edgefield

W. 2 Ash Wednesday! Through a letter from Mrs W. H. Cain to Millie, we hear that Emily has a son born on Saturday 26. She was still at Summersett, & of course would be there some weeks longer. The name of this little fellow I hear is Henry Ravenel. Richard Dwight reached here today about 4 PM from Edgefield & will go down tomorrow on his way to St Johns
