March 1881 Darien, Ga. M. 21 This morning Harry & I went up the river about 7 or 8 miles to get Fraxinus platycarpa for Sargent. We found only one small tree, which Harry knew as one from which he had collected seeds. As the leaves & flowers are not yet out we could find no other. I brought off a log of this 5 ft in length for the Museum. We left about 10.30 and returned near 4 PM. T. 22 Robert Gignilliat slept in Darien last night, & took breakfast here with us this morning. After breakfast I took another buggy ride in the country to look for Gordonia pubescens about the Pine land branches, walking around & examining the trees closely, but could not find it. I shall not go out again for that purpose as it is useless to look any further at this season. Harry has promised to go up to Barrington in July when it is in bloom, & look there for it. W. 23 Harry & I rode out this morning & collected Museum specimens (5 ft long) of Pinckneya pubens & Ilex Dahoon Th. 24 Harry & I went up the river this morning about 3 or 4 miles & collected Nyssa capitalia for the Museum - whole logs 5 ft long.
